Great News in CBA - November!



  • The Nebraska Business Development Center (NBDC) was featured in the Omaha World Herald on October 25 in an article featuring the Women’s Construction Consortium, which NBDC helped form.

  • CBA’s Genius of Warren Buffett course has been completed, and with an amazing capstone experience. As many of you know, this was a class organized by our friend and colleague, Bob Miles, in collaboration with David Volkman and Bill Swanson. We combined our EMBA students with a group of dedicated life-long learners to create a very rich learning environment. The final class included a special appearance from Warren Buffett himself! The Genius of Warren Buffett course was also featured in the Omaha World Herald on November 6!

  • In the fourth-quarter survey of "top economics bloggers" the Kauffman Foundation asked the panel of bloggers "to describe the U.S. economy in haiku. Nearly 20 haiku were submitted and subsequently voted on by more than 500 public readers. The most popular was by Professor Art Diamond (http://artdiamondblog.com):

  • The UNO Mammel Hall Project Team was given the “Project of the Year over $15 million” Award from the Nebraska Area AGC Building Chapter! The award was presented to the Kiewit Building Group in early November during a ceremony in Lincoln.

  • Andy Alexander, NBDC, was featured in an Omaha World Herald article titled, “Military retirees flock to Omaha” on November 9. The article mentions Andy’s group the Veteran’s in Business Forum, which helps veterans sell goods or services to the government.

  • The CBA Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Human Resource Management option has been informed that it aligns with the SHRM HR Curriculum Guidelines. We are the first university in Nebraska to be recognized. SHRM will list CBA on their website and prospective students and employers will be able to verify that our students are being provided with the appropriate education to equip them for HR professional careers.

  • “An engine of innovation” printed in the Omaha World Herald featured NBDC’s Bob Bernier and Lisa Tedesco on November 14. John Carpenter of Bast Labs credited NBDC for making their company more competitive. In 2009, NBDC recorded an overall “impact” – a measure of all lending, job creation, investments and sales by the businesses it helps, among other factors – of $324 million. That number is expected to grow to $450 million in 2011.
