Carl and Joyce Mammel - lead donors to Mammel Hall

With their contribution to the new UNO College of Business Administration building Carl and Joyce Mammel have made the largest single philanthropic gift to UNO in the university's 100-year history.

In recognition of their support the new facility will be named Mammel Hall.

"The Mammels' generous gift is a major step in the continued development of UNO's Pacific Street campus, and we deeply appreciate their interest in and support of the university," said UNO Chancellor John Christensen. "By building capacity for the entire campus, and particularly, a new generation of business administration students, Mammel Hall will also encourage expansion of CBA's many partnerships within business and industry, while stimulating economic development.

"The Mammels' vision will ensure that future business executives have the education and skills they need to be successful in any business environment."

The Mammels are longtime supporters of UNO. In 1998 the couple began funding student scholarships and a faculty-in-residence for professors, programs that have totaled nearly $750,000 since then.

Carl is a 1955 graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) College of Business Administration. He founded Mammel, Schropp, Swartzbaugh, Engler and Jones in 1959. The company provides services in executive benefits, employee benefits planning and wealth transfer planning. In 1991, his firm merged with The Redland Group to become Silverstone Holdings Inc. He was named chairman of the board.

Carl also was a founding partner of M Financial in 1978 and served as chairman of M Financial Holdings Board of Directors. M Financial is the nation's largest insurance and investment marketing organization specializing in executive benefits and wealth transfer planning.

Joyce graduated from UNL in 1957 with a degree in education. She currently serves on the advisory board of Campfire USA and also served on the board of Family Service.

Carl is past chairman of the board of the Omaha Symphony, Children's Hospital and the Omaha Community Foundation. He currently serves as president of the Mammel Foundation and as a member of the NU Foundation Board of Directors and the Omaha Performing Arts Society.

In 2004, Carl received UNO's Order of the Tower, the campus' highest non-academic award.
