Dr. Adidam keynote speaker at Helsinki School of Economics commencement

On April 18, 2009, eighty four students graduated with a BScBA degree in International Business from Mikkeli campus of Helsinki School of Economics. Of these, sixty four took part on Saturday’s commencement ceremony, which was held in the Mikaeli Concert Hall.

The commencement keynote speaker was an American professor Dr. Phani Tej Adidam, whose home university is the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He has taught here since September 2000. The student address was delivered by Joel Karjalainen, who began his studies with his classmates in 2005.

Students complete their BScBA program very quickly compared to other similar programs in Finland. The average completion period for this cohort was 2.6 years. Drop-out rate of this degree program is very low, and graduates either pursue further studies around the globe, or enter into employment.

One of the special features of this BScBA program in HSE Mikkeli is that the courses are taught exclusively in English in intensive three-week modules by distinguished professors from around the world. Students must also complete an exchange semester in a foreign university. In return, about 80 foreign exchange students visit Mikkeli from various universities each year.

Admission into this program is very exclusive. Last year, the program received a record 650 applications, of which only 80 were accepted.
