Scholarships Awarded by the Department of Economics

The Department of Economics has a number of very nice scholarships for economics majors. Some of these are shown below. The dollar value of awards depend upon interest returns to foundation accounts, which are unknown until April or May. If you qualify for a scholarship, please fill out the enclosed scholarship application form. A few minutes of your time can pay off handsomely!! Note that students selection begins with students in the spring of their sophomore year and may also include students in their next-to-last semester.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Economics undergraduate students: GPA equal or above 3.00
Economics graduate students: GPA equal or above 3.50

Barbara Miller Economics Awards
Full-time Junior
Full-time Senior
Graduate Student enrolled for at least 9 hrs (full time)

Junior award is eligible (but not automatic) to be continued into senior year by same student if maintained GPA of 3.5 in both semesters of scholarship year. Same is true of graduate student scholarship. Total can be awarded in spring or fall, but student has to meet fulltime enrollment requirement at the time of the award.


James Horejs Economics Scholarships
Junior or Senior, full time or part-time, with GPA greater than or equal to 3.00


Upland Industries Economics Scholarships
Junior or Senior in Economics, full or part-time, GPA greater than or equal to 3.00


OABE Scholarship (Award)
Junior major (or senior who will return in fall)

Intention to become a business economist and some college activities preferable. Always awarded in spring with intention of helping someone who is returning next year. Awardee is expected to attend the Omaha Association of Business Economists lunch or dinner when award is presented as check from OABE. Awardee is also entitled to attend OABE luncheons free of charge in the following school year. GPA ? 3.00. (UNO every other year. Spring 2000 should be our year.
