Teaching PhD (University of Colorado) Professor Mathis teaches Human Resources Management and Compensation and Benefits to graduate students and students in the Executive MBA program. He has been honored with the UNO Excellence in Teaching Award and was chosen by Executive MBA students as the Outstanding Faculty member in the EMBA program. Research Professor Mathis' research interests include succession planning and human resource trends. He has co-authored several books. Dr Mathis' most widely used text, Human Resource Management (10th edition-2003), is the largest selling text in the HR field and is used at over 400 colleges and universities throughout the U.S. That book has been described as "the best text in the HR market" by both academicians and practitioners. He also has co-authored a basic management text that provides a comprehensive overview of management processes. Additionally, he has published numerous articles on a variety of topics over the last 25 years. Service Dr. Mathis is a member of, and has held numerous offices, in major professional organizations including the Academy of Management and the Society for Human Resource Management. He served as President of the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI), and is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) by HRCI, the national body responsible for codifying the body of knowledge and administering the professional certification examinations in the human resource management field. Professor Mathis has extensive international consulting and training experience with organizations in Australia, Germany, Taiwan, Moldova, Romania and Lithuania. In Taiwan he also served as a distinguished visiting scholar for the National Science Council at several universities. Locally, he is a member of Northwest Rotary. Before entering academe, Dr. Mathis worked in retail management. |
