Teaching
Professor Harland teaches Leadership Development in the Executive MBA program, and Essential Leadership Skills, Managing Performance in Organizations, and Organizational Theory & Design in the MBA program. She was awarded the 2003 University Excellence in Teaching Award, the 2004 MBA Professor of the Year Award, and the 1998 and 2002 Dean's Citation Teaching Awards. Dr. Harland is an active contributor in the college's Executive Education program. Her teaching interests include leadership, organizational behavior, and organizational theory.
Research
Professor Harland's research interests include employee resilience, 360-degree feedback, workplace fun programs, performance appraisals, organizational fairness, temporary employees, organizational citizenship behaviors, personality testing, and leadership development. Her work was honored with the 2001 Best Paper Award at the Midwest Academy of Management. Dr. Harland's work has been published in Journal of Leadership & Organizational Studies, Human Resource Development Quarterly, Journal of Business and Psychology, American Business Perspectives, Employee Responsibilities and Rights Journal, Group and Organization Management, Organizational Politics, Justice, and Support: Managing the Social Climate of the Workplace, and Journal of Applied Psychology. She has served as a reviewer for Human Resource Development Quarterly, Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Organizational Behavior, and Group and Organization Management and for the National Academy of Management and the Midwest Academy of Management. She is currently on the Editorial Board of Journal of Leadership & Organization Studies. She served as the President of the Midwest Academy of Management in 2004 and the Program Chair in 2003.
Service
Dr. Harland is a member of the Academy of Management, Midwest Academy of Management, American Psychological Association, Society for Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Society for Human Resource Management, and the Human Resource Association of the Midlands. She has served on the Executive Graduate Council, UNO's Graduate Council, the Faculty Senate, the University Committee for the Advancement of Teaching, the Educational Advisory Policy Council, and the Chancellor's Commission on the Status of Women. She recently served as chair of CBA's Graduate Program Council. She has consulted extensively with the City of Omaha's Personnel, Fire, and Police departments as well as firms in Omaha and Kansas.
