John C. Hafer

Teaching
PhD (University of Nebraska Lincoln) ? Professor Hafer has taught numerous marketing courses including honors marketing, marketing research, marketing management, direct response marketing, personal selling, sales management, marketing policies, statistics and principles of agricultural economics. He has taught in special training programs on e-commerce in Istanbul, Turkey. His primary areas of teaching interest are introduction to marketing, selling and sales management, business statistics, and graduate level topic areas such as e-commerce and new product development. He was one of four finalists for the Midwest Marketing Association's Outstanding Teaching Award in 2003.

Research
Professor Hafer's research interests are in marketing and management relating to issues about selling and sales management. Dr. Hafer authored two books, Professional Selling and the second, Sales Management. He has co-authored a student study manual about the selling process, an instructor's manual and a test bank. His research has been published in numerous academic journals related to health-care marketing, education, business administration, management and in addition to a variety of trade publication articles related to sales or education. He was awarded a research grant while at Wright State University to examine the affect of relationship mentoring on women in sales. He has served as a reviewer for several textbook publishers and for journals such as the Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management and the Journal of Health Care Marketing. His current research projects include one on the new product development process and market orientation, a second on marketing communications and a third dealing with linkages between emotional intelligence, spirituality and organizational climate.

Service
Professor Hafer has conducted many training seminars about marketing, marketing research, survey research, and selling or sales management for small businesses statewide via involvement in the Nebraska Business Development Center. He has also served extensively in CBA's Executive Education program and as a consultant to several large businesses throughout the region.

Before joining the professoriate, Dr. Hafer worked in retailing, warehousing and purchasing. He was an executive in the national buying office for the 3000+ stores of Safeway Stores Inc. where he was responsible for procuring fresh and processed meats and poultry. Prior to joining Safeway, he was in sales for Cargill.
