Welcome to the
University of Maine Department of Economics Department Chair, Associate Professor David Wihry Economics is the study of
production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services.
Economists constantly ponder the question, "what makes us tick?"
An economics education provides graduates with wide-ranging opportunities  Our economics students receive an
unique education and perspective on the world, and graduate ready to
tackle a host of challenges. Our former students are currently employed in
a wide-variety of areas. The department offers a broad range of
perspectives and encourages student participation in a host of
extra-curricular activities, including the Economics Students Association,
honor societies, and yearly trips to major economic centers such as Boston
