The following is a list of my contributions in the area of service performed for the Universtiy of Nebraska and local businesses.
Service to the community
Recent Speaking Engagements
Financial Analysis and Feasibility Studies for Omaha Businesses. Over the past several years, many businesses have benefitted from profitability analyses performed by me or by student groups under my instruction. The businesses ranged from large international companies to small mom and pop shops. Examples of some businesses that have benefitted from financial feasibility studies include Union Pacific, Conagra, First Data Resources, Cox Communications, Inacom Corporation, University of Nebraska College of Dentistry, Moore Printing, The Green Tree Company, Central States Tool and Die Works, Allstate Insurance, and Ultimate Care.
LOVE Omaha. I have served on the board of directors of a non-profit organization, LOVE INC. This organization is a national clearing house operation designed to network the community's churches with local government agencies in an attempt to serve the community's needy. The goal of the operation is to match individuals of need; i.e., homeless, hungry, abused, etc.; with the resources of the community, both agency sponsored and church-sponsored support. My position on the board will give the University positive exposure to these areas of community involvement.
Service to the University
I have served on several committees within the College of Business Administration. These committees include Strategic Planning Committee (1996-present), Grade Appeals Committee (1989-1992,1994-1995, 1995-1996, and 1996-1997), Suspension Appeals Committee (1989-1992,1994-1995, 1995-1996, and 1996-1997), CBA Library Committee (1989-1992), the CBA Excellence in Teaching Committee (1992-1994), the Executive MBA Curriculum Review Committee (1992-present), and the Honors Program Committee (1992-present). In addition, I served as chair of the CBA Excellence in Teaching Committee during the 1992-1993 school year.
The Strategic Planning Council is a highly active committee comprised of five members within the College of Business Administration. The goals of the committee include writing a mission statement for the College, identifying shared values, strengths, and weaknesses of the College, and establishing one-year, two-year, and five-year strategic plans addressing the College's values, strengths, and weaknesses.
The Executive MBA Curriculum Review Committee is another highly active committee requiring extensive commitment from its members. The Committee's responsibilities include addressing problems and identifying solutions to the current EMBA program and developing an integrated curriculum format within the EMBA program.
The Grade Appeals Committee is a formal committee designed to give students the legal right to appeal a grade they feel was assigned capriciously. After hearing testimony from both the professor and the student the committee members, comprised of two faculty members and two student representatives, vote on the nature of the grade.
The Suspension Appeals Committee is a committee comprised of a minimum of four faculty members and two student representatives. The committee was formed to review students' appeals upon suspension due to poor academic performance from the College of Business. As a member of this committee I participated in reviewing and voting on a number of suspension appeals both in written and oral form.
The CBA Library Committee has been dealt with problems that developed between the college and the library over the acquisition and cancellation of periodicals. We met several times and made significant progress toward alleviating previous problems.
The Excellence in Teaching Committee's main goal is to enhance and encourage superior teaching skills within the college. To accomplish this goal the committee will be focusing on establishing criteria to evaluate outstanding teachers and to develop an appropriate teaching award for those individuals.
