OFFICE HOURS
(classes taught
each semester listed below office hours)
Spring 2012
Most frequently, the problems of any one individual student are shared by most students; accordingly, the first, and by far most important means of contact with the professor is for an individual student to ask a question during class. All students are encouraged to do so. Every class will start with a request from the professor for the assembled students to ask questions. Please, do recall that:
To know you do not know,
and to then take action to remove your self identified ignorance,
it is a true mark of an educated person.Students are encouraged to ask questions in the classroom, however, the professor does have office hours. During Spring 2012 the professor will be in his MH 228 office on Monday and Tuesdays from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM (respectively, the b-law-1 class statrs at 10:30 AM on Monday in MH 325 and on Tuesday in MH 113 [i.e., Schmid Auditorium]). Additionally, the professor will be in his office from 5:30 PM until 6:00 PM on Tuesdays prior to the start of the Tuesday night class in MH 117.
All students are welcome to come during office hours and discuss any mater related to class.
Based on many semesters of experience with using
voice mail, email, and BlackBoard for receiving and then answering student questions,
no longer will the professor accept student questions posed via voice mail, email, or BlackBoard. For those rare questions of personal nature, the instructor certainly is available for private appointments. On a first-come-first-served basis, a student may obtain a private appointment merely by arriving during regularly scheduled office hours. Most private appointments, however, are due to a Force Majeure and thus inherently unexpected and unplanned. When seeking to set up such a private appointment at a time other than office hours the student should feel free to initiate contact in person, via voice mail, or via email.
As noted above, all students are welcome to come during office hours and discuss any matter related to class. Do note, however, Dr. O'Hara does not provide tutoring in private appointments. If a student merely is asking questions of the tutoring variety, all students may sit in on that discussion.
Private appointments are for discussing confidential matters. You will find that Dr. O'Hara will be quite flexible in finding a mutually agreeable time for a private appointment.
Typically, I check my voice mail daily and my email daily during ordinary business hours.
If you contact me by voice mail or
email (contact
info below) to set up
a private appointment,
please
speed up the process of selecting a
mutually agreeable time
by suggesting several times that
will work for you.
And, when you leave your phone number, please, speak slowly and
leave your phone number twice.
Phone calls
during office hours, for most purposes, are equivalent to
face-to-face meetings.
