Introduction
Decades before the College of Business Administration existed within the University, which, by the way, began as a university in 1908 rather than a college, business-related courses were offered. Several subjects were listed in University of Omaha catalogs during the 1911-1931 period. The University of Omaha became a municipal university in 1931 with additional business-related courses added to its offerings. The collegiate names for business administration have had changes over the years: School of Commerce, College of Commerce, College of Business, College of Commerce and Finance, and College of Business Administration. During much of the municipal university period, business administration was a division within the College of Applied Arts and Sciences. In 1949, Business Administration became a separate division which placed it on a par with the other university divisions. Division status for business administration was a prelude to achieving college stature in 1952. This date sets the beginning for the College's fiftieth anniversary. However, one other major event influenced the growth of the college. On July 1, 1968, the Municipal University joined the University of Nebraska system and became the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The College of Business Administration retained its identity.
A History of the CBA would be incomplete without including some sense of prior events and values that serve as a foundation for a College of Business Administration within the University, and to a large extent, continue to guide the College as it moves into its second fifty years of service.
