NBDC Continues To Work Through Expansion Of Services
Many Nebraska firms look to the NBDC to provide their computer training. The number of courses offered are listed in a comprehensive catalog. Courses exist for both users and developers of computer programs. Five classrooms are needed to accommodate the demand for computer training programs. Two classrooms are in the Kiewit Center, two at the Nebraska Furniture Mart, and one opened in 2001 at the EntrepreneurShop located in the Old Mill business area. Opening the training center at the Nebraska Furniture Mart, that was to become quite successful.
Michael Carrell was dean of the college at the time the Nebraska Furniture Mart Training Center was conceived. He endorsed Bernier's proposal for the center and forwarded it through UNO administrators to central administration in Lincoln.
The NBDC has come far in its growth from the time when its training programs emphasized Lotus 123, Symphony, ISPS, dBase III, and MS DOS. It now focuses on economic and business development. However, it does not view its proper function to be one of recruiting businesses to locate in Nebraska, nor to develop industrial parks or promote school programs. Its mission is to help Nebraska grow by improving employees' ability to work with technology through a variety of training programs. The success of NBDC has not gone unnoticed at the national level.
