Developing and nurturing business contacts received a high priority, one that had been lacking for several years even though Dean Carrell had attempted rejuvenation. Lunches were organized for a variety of business leaders and alumni.

Hosted the Billingsley and Penisten room designation ceremonies in the CBA building. Also planned the fall and spring CBA banquets To facilitate more rapport with students an open-door policy to the dean was instituted. Also, the student diversity program coordinator initiated actions that helped the program develop that should help improve the student retention rate.

Further development of the internship program was provided. Working with this program also has the added benefit of getting better acquainted with business leaders.

Faculty development is a vital part of the life of the College of Business Administration. Part of the accreditation process is one of demonstrating that faculty are developing in their research and teaching on a regular basis. Dean Watanabe established a process, aided by some soft money, to assist faculty develop three-year plans for their professional development. While not listed as a responsibility by the Vice Chancellor as a duty of an interim Dean, Dr. Watanabe worked to assist the new dean, Stanley Hille, to meet his decanal responsibilities.
