Forging Stronger Ties to the Business Community

Forging Stronger Ties to the Business Community An immediate goal for Dean Hille was to strengthen the relationships the college has with area businesses. Three outstanding partnerships were noted in the 1997 annual report: A major pipeline company's continuing commitment for improving the computer capabilities of the college, the William Harvey Company's commitment to involve students in its internship program and contacting UNO first when seeking new employees, and Inacom, a technical company, making a long-term commitment to building a strong relationship with the college.

One Omaha banker notes that it has hired over 200 CBA graduates who have performed well and further justifies the bank's decision to continue a partnership with the College. To foster this partnership, the bank offers internships to CBA students. During 1998, they placed six CBA graduates in their management training program. Overall, the bank feels it has created 300 new jobs in Omaha through its various operations.

The internship program has been successful in its operation, and by the end of 1998 more than 120 CBA students are strengthening their education through participation as an intern. Several employers have included sponsoring internships as a part of their ordinary business operations. Scholarships have grown in both amount and number over the years. In 1998, thanks to the generosity of CBA alumni and friends, over $40,000 in scholarships were granted. Efforts continue to increase scholarship assistance for eligible students.
