Ireland Trip Web Site
Undergraduate and graduate business students are invited to join us in exploring Ireland’s role as the new business center of Europe. Tax incentives for foreign businesses, a well-educated workforce and a common language make Ireland a good strategic choice for the global expansion of American businesses. These advantages have made the Emerald Isle home to over 600 American corporations and the fastest growing economy in the European Union.
Each spring for the past eight years, UNO’s CBA has sponsored a student trip to Ireland. Almost 400 students, faculty and staff have traveled to Ireland to study Irish and American businesses while taking a course in International Business or International Economics. The overwhelmingly positive experience of our students led us to make this experience an annual event.
Why Ireland?
Despite being one of the poorest countries in the European Union during the 1980’s the Republic of Ireland’s economy grew rapidly during the 1990’s, leading many to dub Ireland the “Celtic Tiger.” Although the global recession has slowed Ireland’s recent economic growth, economists believe that the Emerald Isle is poised for continued expansion into the next decade.
Trip Highlights
Explore the dynamic business environment of the Celtic Tiger through tours of American and Irish businesses. Tours include firms such as Allied Irish Bank, Intel, PayPal, Waterford Crystal, TourismIreland, Guinness, Citibank, and Jameson’s Distillery.
See history come alive while touring the Four Courts, the Irish Stock Exchange, Kilkenny Castle and the Book of Kells.
Learn about Irish/American political and economic relations through a briefing at the U.S. Embassy.
Discover structures older than the Egyptian pyramids at Newgrange.
Celebrate Ireland’s rich heritage in music and literature through pub crawls.
Spend a day kissing the Blarney Stone, walking the Cliffs of Moher or pondering the origin of the hexagonal basalt columns comprising the Giant's Causeway in County Antrim when you take advantage of one of the optional side trips.
