Great News in CBA - January!



  • The College of Business Administration is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2012.

  • The UNO Maverick men’s hockey team, which is in the top 10 of the 2011-2012 WCHA (Western Collegiate Hockey Association) standings, boasts 19 CBA students from the current team roster of 26 players. The list includes Matt Smith, Andrej Sustr, Tony Turgeon, Kyle Ensign, Jaycob Megna, James Polk, Alex Simonsen, Jayson Megna, Brock Monpetit, Dominic Zombo, Josh Archibald, Ryan Walters, Matt White, Andrew Schmit, Bryce Aneloski, Dayn Belfour, John Faulkner, Ryan Massa and Fredrik Bergman.

  • Mammel Hall was selected for publication in the November 2011 issue of American School and University Architectural Portfolio. Selection criteria qualifying Mammel Hall for publication included sustainability, security, transparency, flexibility, adaptability, and community connection.

  • CBA alumna Patrina White (2008) received board certification as a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives (FACHE). White also recently accepted the position of CEO for Nebraska Orthopedic Associates.

  • Professor and Chair of Marketing and Management Phani Tej Adidam has been invited to London by the International Management Research Academy as a keynote speaker for the 2012 International Conference on Emerging Markets and the New Dynamics of Management taking place in May.

  • On January 3, The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) declared that CBA’s Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Human Resource Management Option degree program aligns with the society’s curriculum guidelines. SHRM’s letter of confirmation stated UNO’s HR degree program showed “quality and thoroughness.”

  • CBA Alum Paul G. Smith (1984) won an Alumni Achievement Award at the December 2011 commencement. Smith is currently vice chairman of Tenaska Energy; co-founder, CEO and senior managing director of Tenaska Capital Management (TCM); as well as the manager of Tenaska Power Fund I and II.

  • Alum Mark Grieb (1981) also won an Alumni Achievement Award at the December 2011 commencement. Grieb is currently regional president of AAA Nebraska/North Dakota.

  • Stephanie Wilson was chosen as student speaker for the December 2011 commencement. Wilson graduated at the ceremony with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis on Management and a minor in Marketing. She is currently working full-time at Union Pacific – a position offered to her upon completion of a year-long internship with the company.

  • Professors of Economics Chris Decker and Mark Wohar were interviewed in a January 22 Omaha World-Herald article titled “Index is based on five variables.” The article discusses Decker and Wohar’s contributions to a new economic index for the city of Omaha.
